Police: 78-year-old man found dead under riding mower

Police are investigating a fatal home accident incident involving an elderly man and a riding lawn mower that occurred early Saturday afternoon at a Waimea home.

At about 1:15 p.m., officers and Hawaii Fire Department personnel responded to a home off the 64-5200 block of Nani Waimea Street for a report of a 78-year-old man who was unresponsive and pinned under a riding lawn mower.

Fire department medics determined that the man, whose name hasn’t been made public by police, was deceased upon arrival. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
