Fujiko Akamatsu, 104, of Kealakekua, died Jan. 8 in Kailua-Kona. She was a former cashier at Oshima Store, a retired kitchen worker at the Kona Community Hospital, and a member of the Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo, where visitation will be held 10 a.m. Feb. 10, with funeral to follow at 11 a.m. Survived by daughters Mildred (Stanley) Tromberg of Plantation, Fla., Linda (Samuel) Camp of Honolulu, Phyllis (Solomon) Alani of Kona; son-in-law Rex Bennett of Las Vegas, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lawrence John Balberde, 85, of Hilo, died Jan. 11. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired Hawaii County firefighter and a diesel mechanic. Wake to be held from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 7 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Hilo, with service at 6 p.m. Visitation to be held 8-9 a.m. Feb. 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with eulogy at 9 a.m. and Mass at 9:30 a.m. Survived by wife Vivian A. Balberde; sons Lawrence (Judy) Balberde, Garrett (Laura) Balberde and Paul (Cerila) Balberde; daughters Natalie (Perry) Thornhill and Jo Anne (Richard) Balberde-Kamali‘i; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and numerous cousins. Denise Marie Clavette, 65, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 25 at home. Born in Bristol, Conn., she was a U.S. Navy veteran. Elsie Fujiko Colon, 88, of Kealakekua, died Jan. 22 at home. Born in Kealakekua, she was a retired dietitian for Kona Hospital. Private services to be held. Reed Yasunoru Ichishita, 74, of Kealakekua, died Jan. 12 at home. Born in Kealakekua, was a U.S. Army veteran, owned Jupiter Cleaners and was a retired technician at Keahole Kona Airport. Rodney Clark Kaleikaulana Kaeka, 82, of Pahoa, died Jan. 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired quilt operator for Simmons Mattress Company. Private services to be held. William “Billy” Kaleionehu Ma‘e, 90, of Keaau, died Dec. 1 at home. Born in Papaaloa, he served in the Hawaii Army National Guard for 25 years and worked for Jas. W. Glover, Ltd. Visitation to be held at 9 a.m. Feb. 2 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, with funeral service at 10 a.m., to be followed by a full military honor ceremony and burial at 11:30 a.m. at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 pavilion.
