Alan Alvarez, 64, of Pahoa died Aug. 30 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a construction supervisor and U.S. Army veteran. Visitation 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 21 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life at noon. Urn burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Tomoyo “Joyce” Horihata, 97, of Hilo died Sept. 22 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker, Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. employee and member of Hilo Armory Badminton Club.
