One wonders how repair of our Laupahoehoe community pool affected the ability of the showers to work in both the men’s and women’s changing rooms?
Prior to the pool closing down for a leak eight months ago, one could and did shower afterward inside assigned changing rooms. Then, voila: Only one of four shower heads on the men’s side worked when the pool reopened last week. That soon changed to none working.
I asked and learned that none on the women’s side were working, either.
Using the deck-side shower was deemed enough, as long as you didn’t use any soap or shampoo. WTF?
I believe someone has turned off the supply line to these necessary showers for some specious reason, and everyone is so happy just to have access to the pool that they’re not willing to say this is wrong.
Well, it’s wrong in so many ways, and whoever’s responsible needs to rectify this situation ASAP. Maintenance of pool facilities is multifaceted, and it behooves the Parks and Rec Department to see that this is made right.

Please maintain the roadsides
Hawaii County and the state of Hawaii appear to have decided not to maintain its roadsides.
In the past, many of the parcels that border on county and state roads have been used for grazing or agricultural use, thus keeping the University of Hawaii-introduced pasture grasses and legumes in check.
The agricultural use of these parcels seems to have stopped, along with the state and county maintenance of the roadsides that border these parcels.
In the past, the great majority of wildfires on the Island of Hawaii have occurred along the state and county roadsides. With the county and state allowing the proliferation of the grasses and legumes along the roadsides, a fuel load is building up that can spark a wildfire easily.
The county and state need to either return to maintaining its roadsides, even if it involves the use of herbicides, or bear the burden of compensating those who are damaged in the wildfires that may occur.

Pink states vs. blue states
Are we becoming a nation of pink and blue states, pink being the states which allow women medical procedures and medical prescriptions, and blue being the states which deny women those rights?
Perhaps more women will go to college, continue on to law school, and become female politicians voting for female rights.
If women in blue states move to pink states, what will the men in the blue states do for female companionship? Perhaps the men in blue states will have to import women from other countries that are more patriarchal and sexist and repressive than ours.
