During the week of May 15-21, Hawaii Island police arrested 16 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic collisions. One was younger than 21.

The numbers of arrests by district were: Puna, seven; Kona, four; South Kohala, three; North Hilo and South Hilo, one each.

So far this year, there have been 394 DUI arrests compared to 415 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.1%.

So far this year, there have been 346 major collisions compared to 309 during the same period last year, an increase of 12%.

To date, there have been nine official traffic fatalities, compared to 16 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 43.8%
