A pair of Puna men face numerous charges in connection with a property crime spree including a string of burglaries that took place between March and May at the Storage Star storage facilities in Keaau.

Isaiah Smith, 20, is charged with five counts of second-degree burglary, four counts of second-degree theft, and single counts of fourth-degree theft and property damage for the storage unit burglaries.

He made his initial court appearance on Friday, and Hilo District Judge Kanani Laubach granted a prosecution motion to raise Smith’s bail from $19,000 to $92,000.

Prosecutors on Tuesday filed an information complaint against Smith, which requires the signature of a judge and moves the case from District Court to Circuit Court, where Smith will plead to the charges.

Van Ryan Dalere, 35, faces the same charges as Smith, plus an additional 23 offenses in relation to a search warrant.

Those charges include: 19 counts of unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, two counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, and single counts of second- and third-degree theft.

According to court documents, items police recovered from Dalere while executing the search warrant include drivers licenses, Social Security cards, an Armed Forces dependent ID card, a state ID card, a Venmo card, several debit cards, a Macy’s credit card, and U.S. Savings Bonds — all the property of other people.

At Dalere’s initial court appearance Monday, Hilo District Judge Mahilani Hiatt maintained Dalere’s bail at $220,000 and ordered him to return today for a preliminary hearing.

The most serious offenses are Class C felonies that carry a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.

Both Smith and Dalere remain in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
