Samuel Ka‘aua Hanawahine, 36, of Hilo died Sept. 28 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a U.S. Army veteran. Celebration of life at a later date. Survived by wife, Kaela M. Escalante; sons, Samuel K. Hanawahine and Robert P. Hanawahine; daughters, Izabelle M. Hanawahine and Annys M. Hanawahine; adoptive mother, JoAnn K. Waiolama; sisters, Wilma A.K.H. (Chauncey) Bertola , Charisse L.H. (Barry) Kekoa, Jemima A. Ramirez, Joscelyn A. (Lehuanani) Waiolama and Jazmen A. (Shane) Waiolama; brothers, William A. Hanawahine II, Michael K. (Shayla) Hanawahine and JohnWayne A. Robert K. Stevens, 80, of Pearl City, Oahu, died Sept. 17 at Pali Momi Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he retired as principal at Radford High School in Honolulu after 44 years with the Department of Education and was a Hilo High School Class of 1959 alumnus. He received the 2006 Masayuki Tokioka Excellance in School Leadership Award and the 2007 MetLife NASSP National Principal of the Year Award. He coached football, basketball and track at field at Radford and the school’s athletic Complex is named after him. Visitation 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 15) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mililani Stake Center on Oahu. Service at noon. Inurnment at a later date. Survived by wife Lien; daughters, Julie “Lahi” (Jacob) Mamea, Ann “Pumehana” Stevens, Lillian “Piikea” (Billy Wolters) Stevens, Nicole (Mars Jones) Stevens and Lien Kala’i Stevens; son, James Robert “JR” Stevens; siblings, Nora Lee (Robert) Kualii, Kawehi “Butch” Stevens-Nahiwa, Nellie Dean ( Henry) Wolthuis and Lauren “Li’i” Stevens-Nahiwa; hanai brother, Richard Stevens.
