UPDATE, 3:03 p.m. Sept. 30: Civil Defense said evacuations are being ordered in Ookala village due to the brush fire.

PREVIOUSLY:

The Hawaii Fire Department is reporting a brush fire in Hamakua near the 30-mile marker of Hawaii Belt Road, makai of Old Mamalahoa Highway near Ookala.

About 10 acres have reportedly burned and no structures are currently threatened.

County Civil Defense is advising motorists to drive with caution in the area as fire crews are on scene actively fighting the fire.
