Are you a caregiver for a parent, grandparent, spouse, friend, or someone with special needs? Join us for a free workshop to discuss common struggles, discover resources in the community, and learn how positive communication can improve your and your loved one’s well-being.

Hawaii Island Adult Care Center is pleased to present “Positive Communications for Caregivers,” a free workshop on Saturday, Sept. 17. Check-in and breakfast are at 8:30 a.m. and the workshop runs from 9 a.m.-noon with lunch served after.

The workshop presenter is Julie Mitchell, executive director of Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center.

Ku‘ikahi is a non-profit community mediation center whose mission is to empower people to come together — to talk and to listen, to explore options, and to find their own best solutions.

This participatory workshop includes facilitated dialogue with other caregivers, a positive communication webinar, and interactive exercises.

Learn the basics of reflective listening, validating feelings, following your loved one’s lead, and 5 ways to say “I’m sorry” for caregivers.

The event will be held at HIAC, 561 Kupuna Street in Hilo, located below the new senior living complex, at the intersection of Komohana and Mohouli.

To reserve your seat, please call Lisa Kwee (808) 961-3747, ext. 112 or email lkwee@hawaiiislandadultcare.org. The last day to register is Sept. 15.

Caregiver events are made possible by Hawaii County.
