Which Hawaii crisis will be solved first? How about a money-making contest?
What will be solved first, and in what order?
New stadium complex, defueling Red Hill, finishing the Honolulu rail project, University of Hawaii football team winning a championship, political corruption, inflation, cost of living, crime, drugs, education, the housing crisis (going strong for at least 50 years so far), homelessness?
OK, the last two are really long shots. Almost as hopeless as finding a politician who keeps his campaign promises!
Each voter buys tickets for $1 each to predict the exact order, and the winner gets $1 million. The loser gets to be governor!
Taxing something or someone to solve a problem, filtering that money through red tape and special interests, and then trickling it down to the people obviously has not worked for decades.
Voting by mail simply hides that we were last place in voter participation. And this was not necessarily due to only apathy but actually to despair.

It’s an eyesore
Recently, I was stopped at the intersection in Hilo by the Central Fire Station.
I am appalled at the exterior appearance of the fire station. The mildew is disgusting and an eyesore.
It’s overdue for a face-lift!
I hope and pray the interior isn’t anything like the exterior. Our firefighters deserve better especially since they live there half of the time. That station is a landmark in Hilo town and should be preserved.

Complacency?
With all the new COVID-19 cases happening on the island and in our hospital, why aren’t we seeing the numbers printed on the front page of the Tribune-Herald like we used to?
It wouldn’t hurt.
