‘Sadly telling’

Attention women: The front page of the July 12 Tribune-Herald shows a photo of Mayor Mitch Roth signing the Book of Condolences in memory of Abe Shinzo.

He is flanked by a traditional lineup of 11 officials in suits. Can you find a woman in the group? Me neither.

Why not? Maybe it’s a simple oversight. But one would think that perhaps just one of these men might have noticed.

Even a “token woman” shows some awareness. That’s sadly telling, isn’t it?

Here is just one more sign that things are not looking good these days for that fifty percent of us who are not men.

And I voted for you, Mayor Roth.

It’s about choice

I too found Daniel Lindsey’s well-written letter to the editor and the letters that followed “spot on.”

His comments were about the abortion issue and other rights we thought were secure.

Is it morality? Male dominance? Power? The issue is about a choice, not about convincing the “other side” that you are solely right.

Some say that there are women who are coerced into having an abortion, but there are also women who are influenced to finish a pregnancy.

A political cartoon showed a newborn baby with the U.S. Supreme Court hovering, saying, “Well we got you here but the rest is up to you.” Same paper announced that free school lunch was to be discontinued.

I read “The Handmaid’s Tale” many, many years ago and thought of it then as a scary futuristic story, but the future is now.

The gift of music

I wish to thank the County Band for giving us an incredible concert of precious music and treasured history from“those days” in celebrating Independence Day.

We enjoyed each individual’s musical talent and the colorful fireworks. They gave us a reason to celebrate outside of our hale.

The gift of music is quite a treasure to our spirituality.

Mahalo plenty, and God bless each one of you. Hopefully to be continued.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Plato said that.

Aloha, sincerely.
