James Nobino Acol Sr., 79, of Kailua-Kona died May 31 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Wahiawa, Oahu, he was a retired painter at the Royal Kona Resort, fisherman and diver, member of the Monday Mixed Bowling League, Wednesday Night Mixed Nuts League, TGIF Bowling League and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Survived by sons, James (Rebecca) Acol Jr. of Crestview, Fla., Jacey Acol of Kailua-Kona and Reed (Malinda) Acol of Hood River, Ore.; daughter, Neivbea (Todd) Zane of Kealakekua; sisters, Octavia Muraoka of Kalaoa, Kona, Olivia Sasada of Kailua-Kona and Judy DeMello of Holualoa; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Stanberson “Bubu” “Mitch” K.P. Mitchell, 56, of Waimea died May 29 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a bartender and banquet porter at the Fairmont Orchid, member of Wailani Canoe Club, Halau O Ka Ua Kani Lehua and U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his sisters, Sheila Roy and Marilyn Mitchell, both of Waimea, Marlene (Lyle) Thomas of California, Henrilyn (Gordon) Grace of Opihihale, Clerilene Mitchell of Hilo; brothers, Stareyton (Nina) Mitchell of Honopua and Clebertan Mitchell of Hilo; hanai brothers, Alfred (Rochelle) Berdon, Jr., Bruce (Genie) Nishie and Mack Yamaguchi, all of Waimea; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Sachiko Ishihara, 92, of Honokaa died May 27 in Hilo. Born in Honokaa, she was a retired cafeteria worker at Honokaa School and member of Honokaa Hongwanji Mission and Honokaa Senior Center. Makiko Ohashi, 101, of Mountain View died May 22 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Mountain View, she was a retired cafeteria manager at Mountain View Elementary and Intermediate School Hilo High School cafeteria worker, bowler, member of the Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai and was active with senior activities, including playing ukulele. Survived by son, Glenn (Kathy Isherwood) Ohashi of Hilo; daughters, Arleen Ogasawara of Kaneohe, Oahu, and Iris (Ryan Camero) Ohashi of Hilo; brothers, Tatsuo Higa of Honolulu, George (Joyce) Higa of Hilo, James Higa of Kauai, Richard Higa of San Gabriel, Calif., and Reginald Higa of Alaska; sisters, Yaeko Chung and Chieko Toyama of Honolulu, Jeanne (Kenneth) Wong of Mililani, Oahu; sister-in-law, Aiko Fujimoto of Hilo; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins. Kaiminaauao S.N.F.A. Puaoi, 43, of Holualoa died May 24 at Kona Community Hospital. He was the owner of Mana Painting LLC and a teacher for Alii Surf School.
