During the week of June 6-12, Hawaii Island police arrested 18 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident. And one driver was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: South Hilo, eight; Kona, five; Puna, three; North Kohala and South Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 479 DUI arrests compared to 542 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.6%.
There have been 339 major accidents so far this year compared to 350 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.1%.
To date, there were 16 fatalities compared to 11 fatal crashes for the same time last year, an increase of 45.5%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
