Four awarded Eagle Scout rank

Hunter Chun Fat, 20, Adam Wall, 19, Bito Gervais, 19, and Jonathan Okamura, 18, of Scouts BSA Troop 1023B were presented Scouts BSA’s highest rank of Eagle Scout at a COVID-19-delayed Court of Honor held on June 5 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin’s Sangha Hall, sponsor of Scouts BSA Troop 1023B.

Chun Fat, whose official Eagle Rank was accomplished on April 14, 2020, has held leadership positions of librarian, troop guide, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader.

His Eagle Service Project was to install a bench and plant a shade tree at Keikiland Preschool, located at Kaumana Baptist Church. Chun Fat’s Eagle Board of Review was unique as he was the first scout in Aloha Council to do a Board of Review via Zoom due to COVID-19.

Chun Fat is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus, class of 2020. He currently works for Kipapa Traffic Management and is planning to join his family business as a financial planner.

Chun Fat is the son of Robert and Stacey Williams of Hilo.

Wall, who passed his Eagle Board of Review on March 9, 2021, served as troop historian, quartermaster, patrol leader, troop guide, and assistant senior patrol leader.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Wall built a mochi preparation table for Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin’s Mochitsuki. Wall just finished his sophomore year at UH-Hilo studying aeronautical science. In August, he plans to attend Vanderbilt University and major in electrical engineering.

Wall’s parents are Drs. Marisa and Arthur Wall of Hilo.

Gervais has held the positions of quartermaster, den chief, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. For his Eagle Scout service project, he constructed a picnic table area and planted trees at Malama Park in Hilo. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout on April 13, 2021.

Gervais graduated from Hilo High School in 2021.

He is currently a Private First-Class combat medic in the 1st Squadron, 299th Cavalry Regiment of the Hawaii U.S. Army National Guard. In August 2022 he will be attending the New Mexico Military Institute on a ROTC scholarship.

Gervais is the son of Isabel Gervais and Cristobal Serrano of Hilo.

Okamura has held the positions of librarian, scribe, quartermaster, patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader. Okamura’s Eagle project consisted of installing weed mats and gravel to improve the drainage at the Halai tennis courts at Hilo Intermediate School. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout on March 8.

Okamura graduated from Hilo High School in 2022 and will be attending the University of Southern California in the Fall majoring in biochemistry.

Okamura is the son of Dave and Kerri Okamura of Hilo.
