Praise for Burnett

Mahalo-plenty, (Tribune-Herald reporter) John Burnett. I saw you sitting on the front row at the Memorial Day event but failed to recognize your presence to the crowd.

I’m so sorry that I failed to mention your name. You’ve always been there for the community, but especially for us veterans.

The article that you wrote is reflective of the soft-hearted and kind person that you are — and generous when it comes to fairness in writing.

Mahalo, brother, and may the Good Lord give you an increase in your health. Live long and prosper.

America equals guns

On February 17, 2016, the British poet Brian Bilston, the “poet laureate of Twitter,” published a poem he titled, “America is a Gun.”

England is a cup of tea.

France, a wheel of ripened brie.

Greece, a short, squat olive tree.

America is a gun.

Brazil is football on the sand.

Argentina, Maradona’s hand.

Germany, an oompah band.

America is a gun.

Holland is a wooden shoe.

Hungary, a goulash stew.

Australia, a kangaroo.

America is a gun.

Japan is a thermal spring.

Scotland is a highland fling.

Oh, better to be anything

than America as a gun.

Biden to blame

Regarding “Opinions aren’t facts” (Your Views, June 5): Ms. Karen Cooper, can you tell me one instance of Tucker Carlson reported anything that was not fact?

Carlson is one reporter who researches news prior to broadcasting any item, unlike CNN, CNBC, CBS, NBC and the rest of the far-left media. Just identify one instance he supposedly talked about that is not fact.

CNN was sued and lost millions in a lawsuit for deformation, lying about a young man wearing a cap supporting Trump.

You are correct that most so-called informative programs broadcast propaganda, but of all programs, you single out Fox News and Carlson when there are many leftist programs parroting identical wording, as if they all work from the same script.

All these people should be designated commentators and lose their news reporter status and immunity — that way they’ll be open to lawsuits and think twice before and do research before reporting rumors.

Lies are not facts, as the left-wing commentators repeat again and again in an attempt to try making people believe the lies are facts.

Democrats are deathly afraid of Trump running in 2024 and doing every dirty trick to smear him and keep him from running.

The entire country is in chaos with Biden’s corrupt and inept administration. We had a smooth-running country handed to Biden, and Biden immediately set out to cancel Trump’s policies and in less than a year destroyed the country.

Inflation, caused by Biden cancelling oil production and a pipeline, made America energy independent instead of energy dependent, buying oil from, of all countries, Russia.

China’s tentacles

A May 27 article in the Tribune-Herald was headlined “China’s FM visits Kiribati where fishing ground is at stake.”

The vast fishing ground, the size of California, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Kiribati should protect it so marine life can replenish, recover and renew its vibrancy and biological health.

China wants to continue dominating commercial fishing in the area. They are bribing the Phoenix Island government with an upgraded airport and causeway.

With the “go fish” door swung wide open, Beijing may want to establish surveillance activities in the region.

My opinion: Take a machete to China’s exploitative, ugly tentacles.
