Public library system presents ‘Sea Turtles of Hawaii and Beyond’

Oceans of Possibilities, the Hawaii State Public Library System’s 2022 Summer Reading Challenge, runs June 5 through July 30.

As part of this year’s challenge, Thelma Parker Memorial Public &School Library is hosting a free virtual event, ‘Sea Turtles of Hawaii and Beyond,’ with veteran marine science educator Marc Rice, director of the renowned Sea Turtle Research Program at Hawaii Preparatory Academy.

The program, appropriate for ages 9 and above, is being presented at 10:30 a.m. on Fri., June 17. Registration is required. To register visit librarieshawaii.org/event/sea-turtles-of-hawaii/.

Rice will talk about the sea turtles found in Hawaii, Hawaiian sea turtle biology and ecology, nesting biology and distribution, current growth trends in the Hawaiian population, and the Sea Turtle Research program’s current projects, which include satellite tagging of post-nesting hawksbill turtles in the Republic of Vanuatu and pelagic migratory behavior of juvenile loggerhead turtles raised in Japan.
