Helen Shirota-Benevides of Papaikou was presented Aloha Council Boy Scouts of America’s prestigious Legacy Leaders Award for her many years of service and contributions of time, talents and treasure to advance Scouting in Hawaii. This award was presented to her on March 12 at a luncheon held at the Hilo Yacht Club.

Shirota-Benevides has volunteered for many decades as a Cub Scout, Scout and administrative leader, most recently as Aloha Council’s Vice-President representing the Island of Hawaii.

In her Scouting career, Shirota-Benevides has attended numerous camp-outs, volunteered at National Scout Jamborees and served as instructor for many scouting training courses.

She has received many Scouting awards including Scouting’s Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope Awards for exemplary service to youth.
