Police are investigating the discovery of a body found Saturday afternoon in the water below Rainbow Falls in Hilo.

According to police, shortly before 2 p.m., officers and Hawaii Fire Department personnel responded to Rainbow Falls State Park after receiving a report of a body floating face down at the bottom of the falls.

The body was identified as a 37-year-old Hilo man, but police aren’t releasing his identity pending notification of family.

Foul play isn’t suspected at this time, police said.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.

This investigation is currently classified as a coroner’s inquest and police ask anyone who might have relevant information to call the police department’s nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.
