The Hawaii State Public Library System announced Tuesday that public library branches will reopen on Wednesdays beginning today.

The Wednesday closures were instituted on Aug. 18, 2021, due to the high infection rates of the delta and omicron variants.

All library users may browse for materials, use public internet computers for up to two 60-minute sessions per day, access free Wi-Fi, pick up holds, use printers and copiers, and request reference and research assistance.

As state facilities, all public libraries must comply with state health mandates which require patrons and visitors (12 years and older) to: present proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test issued within the last 72 hours; wear a mask while indoors; practice physical distancing; follow basic guidelines for being safe — staying at home if you are sick, washing hands, and using hand sanitizer.

Patrons can also enjoy virtual access to library resources. The HSPLS digital doors are always open at librarieshawaii.org. With just a library card you can download ebooks, stream movies, learn a language, read The New York Times and more.
