Trinidad Abelaye, 97, of Keaau died Dec. 26 at home. She was a retired nurse’s aide for Kuakini Medical Center in Honolulu. Private services held. Survived by sons Melvin (Myra) Abelaye and Brian (Sandra) Abelaye of Honolulu, Clyde Abelaye of Keaau, David Abelaye of Hilo; daughter Miriam (Peter) Wolff of Honolulu and Yolanda (Daniel) Kikawa of Hilo; 26 grandchilren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Nobu Sakata Asai, 94, of Kohala died Nov. 28 in Las Vegas. Born in Waimea, she was owner/operator of Nobu’s Beauty Salon and member of Kohala Jodo Mission. Memorial service at a later date. Survived by sons, Keith Asai of Las Vegas and Kelly (Debbie) Asai of Hawaiian Paradise Park; brother, Shuji (Shirley) Sakata of Honolulu; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Deborah Lynn Baker, 67, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 31 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Los Angeles, she was executive director of the Kailua Village Business Improvement District, former Ironman Triathlon World Championship race director, past board chair of Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, former member of the University of Hawaii at Hilo Chancellor’s Leadership and Development Council, Hawaii Community College Chancellor’s Advisory Council and Hawaii Preparatory Academy of Trustees. She was a past-president of the Hawaii Preparatory Academy Alumni Association, founding member and former director of the Onizuka Memorial Committee, former commissioner of the Hawaii County Police Commission and Hawaii County Board of Ethics. She received the Hawaii Community College Mahalo Award and Kona-Kona Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year Award. Services at a later date. Survived by companion, Ross Wilson Jr. of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Tara (Thomas Struth) Smith of Berlin; stepdaughter, Lea (Nate Grocholski) Wilson of Kailua-Kona; mother, Betty Dentry of Kailua-Kona; father, J.B. Olinda Puanani Cazimero, 78, of Waimea died Oct. 7 at home. Born in North Kohala, she was a homemaker and a Kohala High School alumna. Celebration of life at a later date. Carolyn Conol, 69, of Mountain View died Jan. 22 at Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Hilo. Memorial services/celebration of life at a later date. Lynne Y. Horikoshi, 69, of Wailuku, Maui, died Jan. 27 at home. Born in Hilo, she was retired from the County of Maui Kaunoa Senior Services Center and enjoyed dancing hula, making floral arrangements, money leis and bouquets. Private services; no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by husband, Roy; children, Roger (Ashley) and Lyssa (Patrick); sister, June Horihata Villanueva; brother-in-law, Walter (Takako); sister-in-law, Scarlet Balucan; four grandsons; three nephews and three nieces.

Philibert “Ski” F. Kwiatkowski, 74, of Puu Hue, Kohala, died Dec. 23 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a former Honolulu police officer, retired chief of security for the Royal Waikoloan, U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha, Kohala Chapter.
