A 38-year-old man faces felony charges for allegedly stealing a Ford truck from a Kurtistown residence Thursday and attempting to flee from police later the same day.

Sergey Anatolyevich Tkachuk of Kurtistown was charged with first-degree theft, a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment upon conviction, plus first-degree unauthorized control of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, and resisting an order to stop, all Class C felonies carrying maximum penalties of a five-year prison sentence.

According to county Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen, Tkachuk also is pending felony charges for an unrelated matter in Kailua-Kona.

Tkachuk remained in custody in lieu of $65,000 bail pending his initial appearance Tuesday in Hilo District Court.
