25 inmates test positive at Hilo jail

The state Department of Public Safety on Tuesday reported a high number of new COVID-19 cases in Hawaii Community Correctional Center.

In a statement, DPS said that out of 60 inmate test results received at the Hilo jail, 25 were positive and 35 were negative. In addition, two staffers were reported positive, while one staffer was reported as recovered. And one inmate previously reported positive was released, according to DPS.

At Kulani Correctional Facility, about 20 miles southwest of Hilo, 97 inmate test results were received, with one positive and 96 negative. In addition, one staffer tested positive, and three other staffers were reported as recovered.
