Police say there will be partial highway closures Thursday on segments of Mamalahoa Highway and Queen Kaahumanu Highway in South Kohala, while personnel from the Kona Traffic Enforcement Unit investigate of two recent traffic collisions.

In both instances, one lane of traffic will be closed with officers directing flow of traffic in the open lane.

The first partial road closure will take place between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Queen Kaahumanu Highway, from the intersection of Kawaihae Road to the entrance of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, to investigate the death of a pedestrian that occurred Sunday.

The second partial road closure will occur from noon and 1 p.m. on Mamalahoa Highway between Puanuanu Place and Kekehau Street in Waimea to investigate a traffic collision that injured a 20-year-old male skateboarder on Dec 15.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution and plan ahead, as drive times in these areas may take longer than usual due to the partial road closure.
