Pahala man faces auto theft, drug, ammo charges

A 29-year-old Pahala man was charged in connection with unauthorized control of a stolen Toyota pickup truck on Nov. 5 and possession of methamphetamine and ammunition on Tuesday.

According to county Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen, Scotty Kawaauhau is charged with unauthorized control of a stolen vehicle, resisting an order to stop, second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and prohibited possession of ammunition.

Bail for Kawaauhau, who has a prior conviction for second-degree burlary, has been set at $72,250.

He was scheduled to make his initial appearance Thursday in Hilo District Court.
