The UH-Hilo volleyball team went five sets again to beat another PacWest foe, Concordia, 20-25, 26-24, 25-16 , 16-25, 15-7 Saturday night at its fan-free gym.

The Vulcans (10-2, PacWest 7-1) won their sixth straight and remained tied for first place with Azusa Pacific while the Eagles (9-5, 4-3) went 1-2 on their Hawaii trip and fell to Chaminade in five sets earlier this week.

Bria Beale had 22 kills and 29 digs, Samara Cruz added 13 kills and 14 digs, Ashton Jessee had 12 kills and hit .321, and Kamilla Marinas added 11 kills and hit. 308 for the Vulcans, who hit .210 and were outblocked 8-6.

Marinas started in place of opposite Alex Parisian, who injured her knee in a five-set win against Biola on Wednesday. She was on crutches while on the bench.

Tani Hoke also added 19 digs, setter Kendall Kott had 18 digs, and Madelyn Blandford had 12 digs.

Kirra Schulz had 16 kills, hit .289, and had 16 digs, but the UHH defense clamped down on 6-foot-4 senior opposite Patience O’Neil, who had 14 kills but hit .176 for the Eagles, who hit .207 and got 27 digs from libero Cassidy Gelacio.

In the fifth set, UHH went on an 11-0 scoring run to finish off Concordia, which earlier swept two-time conference champion Azusa Pacific but lost in four sets to Biola before its Hawaii road trip.

The Vulcans continue their four-match homestead against Dominican on Wednesday and Holy Names on Saturday.
