6.1 quake jolts Big Island

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake rocked the Big Island at about 11:49 a.m. this morning.

According to preliminary data from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, the quake was 10.6 miles deep and was located off the southern tip of the island.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu reports there is no tsunami threat from the quake.
