DOH: 40 new cases on Big Island today, 195 in state

The state Department of Health today reported 195 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases statewide, including 40 on the Big Island.

An average of 259 new cases have been reported daily Sept. 26 – Oct. 2.

Hawaii County has a 5.3% test positivity rate, compared to a 3.5% positivity rate statewide.

In the past 14 days, 162 infections have been reported in Hilo and 163 have been reported in Kailua-Kona.

During that same time period, 85 cases have been reported in Pahoa, and 81 in Keaau.

According to the DOH, 68.2% of Hawaii’s population has now been fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus and 76.6% have received at least one dose.

In Hawaii County, 64% of residents are fully inoculated while 76% have received at least one dose.

Testing is available until 10 a.m. today at the Hisaoka Gym in Kapaau, and from 2 to 4 p.m. at Waimea District Park in Waimea.
