Police have identified a man killed in a single-vehicle traffic collision Saturday night in Pahoa as 25-year-old Robert Lively of Pahoa.
Officers responding to a 9:21 p.m. traffic collision determined that Lively was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma north on Highway 130 when he lost control and slid off the right shoulder of the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll.
Lively, the sole occupant of the pickup truck, was ejected and found unresponsive under the vehicle. The roadway was wet and it had been raining off and on in the area at the time of the collision.
Lively was later taken to Hilo Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. on Sunday. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have determined Lively wasn’t wearning a seatbelt and speed was a factor in the crash. At this time, police have not determined if alcohol and/or drugs are factors in this investigation.
Lively’s death is the 16th official traffic fatality of 2021, compared to 13 fatal traffic collisions at the same time last year.
