A 39-year-old Pahoa man was arrested late Thursday night after a stabbing in a Hawaiian Beaches home that resulted in the hospitalization of his ex-girlfriend.

According to police, they responded to an 11:15 p.m. call of a stabbing on Opae Street. Arriving officers found a 39-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds.

The victim told police her ex-boyfriend, Frank Funes, entered her home without being invited shortly after 11 a.m., stabbed her in her bedroom, then left.

Officers on scene relayed the make and model of Funes’ vehicle to patrol officers in the area who quickly located the suspect and conducted a traffic stop, police said. Funes was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, kidnapping, burglary and domestic abuse.

He remained in police custody Friday while detectives investigate.

The woman was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she continues to receive treatment for her injuries, police said.
