Travelers from the Philippines and South Korea will be allowed to bypass quarantine requirements in Hawaii starting next week as the state begins reopening international travel.

Gov. David Ige announced Friday that travelers who receive a negative COVID-19 test from certain testing partners in the Philippines and South Korea within 72 hours of departure can bypass the state’s quarantine requirements.

“We are delighted to announce that we are expanding our Safe Travels pretravel testing program to include travelers from the Philippines and South Korea.

“Hawaii is also home to many Filipino and Korean Americans, and we appreciate our partners who are helping families reconnect,” Ige said in a statement.

Travelers who have received a negative test from a testing partner must upload the results to the Safe Travels app.

There is no change to travel protocols from Hawaii to either the Philippines or South Korea.

Currently, non-Filipinos attempting to enter the Philippines must quarantine at an approved site for 10 days after arrival at the traveler’s expense, undergo COVID testing on the seventh day of quarantine and have either a Philippine-issued vaccination record, an international certificate of vaccination from the World Health Organization, or a vaccination authentication certificate from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office.

Non-Koreans traveling to South Korea are subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine and must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within three days of arrival.
