Wailoa Center’s Ethnobotanical Garden has several dates planned for volunteers who want to help plant and maintain the ongoing educational garden development, located just over the wall at the Wailoa Center.
Volunteers will meet 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Wednesday mornings, today (June 30), July 7, 14, and 21.
For those who want to help but can’t make it on Wednesdays, a session is scheduled from 7 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 10. All are welcome to come help.
Upcoming tasks will include planting, transporting mulch, painting labels and weeding. Once fully established, the garden will provide the materials for artistic and educational community workshops including lei making, kapa dyeing, cordage and more.
The Rotary Club of Hilo has generously gifted a grant of $1,000 to the project which will help fund plant purchases and garden supplies. The garden is also sponsored by the nonprofit, Hawaii Island Art Alliance and Hawaii State Parks. To volunteer or to learn more, email wailoahiaagarden@gmail.com.
