Keawe Kaomea Kaanaana Kupihe Alapai, 42, of Kailua-Kona died April 17 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kona, he was a family genealogist and U.S. Army National Guard veteran. Services held. John “Hal” Hopson, 87, of Waimea died April 8 at home. Born in Sedan, N.M., he was a retired doctor of veterinary medicine. Service information at a later date. No flowers. Patrick “Pat” L. Joaquin, 68, of Honokaa died April 10 at Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Haina, he was an employee of the former Hamakua Sugar Co., journeyman carpenter and home restoration business owner, security guard, school bus driver for Akita Enterprises, retired Hawaii Army National Guard staff sergeant and member of the American Legion Post 3 Hilo, rider with numerous Big Island motorcycle clubs, CB radio enthusiast and hunter, archer and fisherman. Milton “Pettoe” Hoalulu Kala‘i, 70, of Hilo died May 16 in Waimanalo, Oahu. Hisako Taniyama, 98, of Kailua-Kona died April 29 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired counter agent for the former Aloha Airlines and member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Waiaha Kumiai, Buddhist Women’s Association, Kona Senior Bowling League and Senior Activities. Survived by daughters, Marsha (James) Boyle of Kailua-Kona and Sylvia (Mike) Martines of Honolulu; sons, Alan (Sharon) Taniyama of Keopu and Terry (Cynthia) Taniyama of Kailua-Kona; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Stephen Worth Wolfgang, 89, of Kailua-Kona died May 16 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Oakdale, Pa., he was a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and decorated Vietnam War veteran and civil engineer for Boeing and the Department of Defense.
