It’s been a warm May, and Monday’s high of 88 degrees registered shortly before noon at Hilo International Airport tied the record high temperature for May 17, which was set last year.

It was the fifth time this month a record high has been tied in Hilo.

On Sunday, the high of 87 degrees tied the old record set in 1980.

On May 1, May 3 and May 10, the thermometer hit 85 degrees at the Hilo airport, tying the record highs set in 1980, 2018 and 2016, respectively.
