Having an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for one scout is quite an accomplishment, but having three from the same troop earn scouting’s highest award is something special, especially during a pandemic.

Kyle Lagadon, Collin Olive and Xavier Tablit finished up their projects and had their Eagle board of reviews just before the COVID-19 pandemic closed things down. They waited a full year to finally have their recognition ceremony as all three were awarded their Eagle rank on March 16 in Keaau.

Besides persevering through a pandemic, all three young men had to find a new troop when theirs disbanded at the end of 2019 just as they were finishing up their Eagle projects. Luckily, Troop 1067, and scoutmaster Carl Hopkins, welcomed them and allowed them to finish. A major requirement of the rank was the Eagle Scout project.

Kyle had a love of photography given to him by his grandfather and decided to do a project where he invited 75 families to come out and take a family Christmas picture which he then delivered to the families.

Collin was able to document all 4,500+ memorials at the Hilo Veterans Cemetery No. 2 and upload pictures and transcribe all the information so that it became searchable digitally. He has received many email thanks from relatives not able to visit their loved ones’ memorials.

Xavier, a graduate of Pahoa High School, noticed many students had an interest in agriculture and was able to build an area on campus where students can practice farming skills.

All three young men thanked the many people who enabled them to achieve their projects. Anyone interested in scouting can call the council office at 959-0079.
