Waiakea High School’s Jade Ishimine and her classmates shined at the 2021 Virtual Hawaii State DECA Career Development competition, which was held Feb. 17-18.
DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) conferences are targeted, highly focused learning experiences for students in the field of business. The conferences bring student members into the business industry while providing unique opportunities to extend classroom learning. The conference connects students with professionals, engaging them in learning industry-related trends and content.
Waiakea’s DECA students competed in various competency and performance-based events and exams in business services marketing, entrepreneurship, human resource management, marketing communications, and retail merchandising.
Ishimine won a finalist medal for business services marketing, took first place for a written exam, and won the overall first place trophy.
Andrea Leung won a finalist medal for human resource management and won the overall second-place trophy.
Kacie Tagawa won a finalist medal for retail merchandising and won the overall third-place trophy.
Saedie Wakia won a finalist medal for human resource management.
Ishimine and Tagawa represented the state of Hawaii on the international level at the virtual DECA International Career Development Conference in April.
Tagawa received an achievement award medallion for her role play in the retail merchandising competitive event.
