The Hawaii Police Department along with the Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney hosted a sign-waving event April 23, reminding Hilo motorists to always drive sober.

The event was part of ongoing outreach efforts by HPD during Distracted Driving Month, which is also Alcohol Awareness Month. Sheriff’s deputies from the state Department of Public Safety, personnel from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and volunteers from businesses and organizations all held signs and spread the word by waving at passing drivers along Mamalahoa Highway.
