A 53-year-old Hilo man pleaded no contest Wednesday to manslaughter the starvation death of his 9-year-old daughter almost four years ago.
Kevin Lehano faces a potential 20 years in prison when he is sentenced June 29 by Hilo Circuit Judge Peter Kubota.
Lehano, his 37-year-old wife Tiffany Stone, and her 63-year-old mother, Henrietta Stone, are all accused of the fatal starving Shaelyn Lehano-Stone, who died June 28, 2016. Paramedics found her lifeless body on the floor of Henrietta Stone’s Kinoole Street apartment, which is almost directly across from the Hilo Central Fire Station.
Tiffany Stone was sentenced March 22 by Hilo Circuit Judge Henry Nakamoto to 10 years probation by after pleading no contest to manslaughter in the girl’s death. She was in the courtroom gallery in Lehano’s change-of-plea hearing.
Lehano is also expected to argue for probation at his sentencing hearing.
Henrietta Stone is still facing a second-degree murder charge but is going through a court-ordered mental examination. She has a hearing scheduled for Friday before Nakamoto.
