Piglet, also known as “Piggy,” is a delightful, affectionate 2-year-old dog living at the Hawaii Island Humane Society Keaau shelter. Piglet was born blind but she keenly uses her other senses to navigate and map the world around her. She needs a patient, loving home that will provide her with joy, comfort, safety and enrichment.

She adores people and has quickly made friends with all of the staff, thanks to her gentle, sweet demeanor. Piglet loves comfort and cozy beds so much so that she has become the humane society’s office dog. Her favorite thing is napping on her cozy beds. She enjoys belly rubs and conversations — she loves when the staff talks to her and calls her name.

Since she has been at the humane society, Piglet has shown them that she is best suited to being an indoor pup. Blind dogs like Piglet thrive on routine to help them build confidence, so Piglet will need a family or individual committed to helping her grow and thrive through positive reinforcement training.

Her adoption includes a consultation with a dog trainer to help set you and her up for success and a lifetime of happiness together.

Piglet seems most comfortable in the presence of people who adore her and would do best in a home as the only dog so that she can get all of the affection and attention that she so deserves. However, she is not reactive to other dogs and has a positive history of living around cats. Given time, patience and understanding, Piglet will be a mellow, gentle companion.
