Police and fire rescuers found an overdue hiker walking in a lava field near Piilani Road in Kalapana Gardens shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a Hawaii Fire Department statement, the hiker, who was not identified, said she was confused and not sure what happened.

An ambulance took the woman to Hilo Medical Center for “further evaluation,” according to the statement.
