Wilfred K. Hussey Jr., 19, of Hilo was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, 31st Infantry, declared missing in action on Dec. 12, 1950, and presumed dead on Dec. 31, 1953. His remains were identified and accounted for on Sept. 10, 2019. He was a 1949 graduate of Hilo High School, played football for the Waiakea Pirates and enlisted in the Army in 1949. He is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and a National Park Service and American Battles Monument. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, Apr. 23, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Urn committal service at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 pavilion. Seating is limited.
