Waimea AARP Tax Aide, in conjunction with the IRS, will provide free tax preparation services for 2020 tax returns on Fridays, from March 5 to April 9.

It will be held at a new site, the Waimea Senior Center, located next to the Kamuela Post Office at 67-1199 Mamalahoa Highway. The same-day drop-off service is for families with low to moderate income, with priority given to seniors. AARP membership is not required.

Clients are required to bring their own pens to complete the intake sheet in their cars and enclose these items in the provided envelope: copies of their photo ID and Social Security cards, W-2 and 1099 tax documents for income received, tax-deductible payments made, bank information for direct deposits of tax refunds, and the 2019 tax return.

At pick-up, the taxpayers listed on the return must sign the e-file authorization form and verify the return of all documents.

Appointments from 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. must be made at 885-4722 or 388-6645. Clients wishing to obtain the intake sheet in advance of the appointment day may pick up a packet on Fridays during operating hours at Waimea Senior Center or Tuesdays through Saturdays at Thelma Parker Public Library.

Clients are urged to carry their cell phones so counselors will be able to reach them.

Those who have difficulty writing or reading should be accompanied by a family member or helper, since client facilitators will not be able to assist with the completion of the intake sheet.

Adherence to mask wearing and social distancing guidelines will be mandatory.
