Pohakuloa Training Area fire personnel and county fire rescuers on Monday extricated a woman hiker from a trail on Maunakea.

According to a written fire department statement, the woman was rescued about 2 miles above Halepohaku and about a mile below Lake Waiau at an elevation of approximately 13,000 feet.

The call came in at about 2:35 p.m. that the woman fell and sprained both knees on the rocky terrain.

The release states the woman was unable to walk to her vehicle, so she was put onto a spine board and loaded into a rescue litter for extrication.

The woman, who was in stable condition, drove her own vehicle down the mountain, authorities said.
