Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man and a woman they think robbed an elderly woman shopper early Saturday night in downtown Hilo.

According to Lt. Rio Amon-Wilkins of the Hilo Criminal Investigations Section, the robbery occurred at about 6 p.m. and no weapons were seen. He declined to say what was taken from the victim, describing it as “items probably only the suspects would know.”

The victim, in her 70s, sustained “substantial injuries” and was taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment, Amon-Wilkins said.

He said the woman has since been released from the hospital.

A surveillance camera captured video of the suspects in front of a Kamehameha Avenue business.

The man has a thin build and was wearing a dark jacket, shorts, ball cap and white athletic shoes. The woman has a medium build and was wearing a forest-green hoodie and tan trousers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
