Two kayakers who went missing off Punalu‘u Beach Wednesday have been found alive and well, reported the U.S. Coast Guard.

The two kayakers, a male and female both approximately 50 years old, were reported missing at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday by someone who had seen them depart in a two-person kayak at about 3 p.m. but never saw them return.

After that report, the U.S. Coast Guard sent a cutter and air crews to search for the duo. Mariners were asked to keep a lookout for signs of distress.

However, a Coast Guard representative said today that the two were found alive and well this morning, and that they had simply gone fishing.

More information about the search will be forthcoming from the Coast Guard later today.
