DOH reports 168 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, 13 on Big Island

The state Department of Health reported 168 new COVID-19 cases today, with 154 cases on Oahu, 13 on Hawaii Island and one in Maui County.

That brings the total number of cases statewide to 11,689. One Honolulu case has been removed from the count,

According to Hilo Medical Center, as of today there were 28 deaths on Hawaii Island, with one newly reported death associated with the cluster at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. That brings the veterans home death toll to 26, with the other two deaths unrelated to the cluster.

The new cases bring Hawaii County’s total since the pandemic began to 672.

The City and County of Honolulu have reported 10,546 cases, Maui County 386 and Kauai County 57, with 28 cases of Hawaii residents diagnosed outside the state.

The DOH’s death toll of 122 doesn’t include several from the veterans home due to their verification requirements.

According to DOH, 763 cases required hospitalization, while 5,125 individuals have been released from isolation as “recovered.”

The U.S. death toll today climbed over 201,000, far and away the highest confirmed death toll from the novel coronavirus in the world.
