Two employees of the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo have tested positive for COVID-19.

Dan Brinkman, East Hawaii Regional CEO, Hawaii Health Systems Corp., confirmed the cases and said this afternoon that the entire staff and all residents were tested Sunday and today. Results are pending.

The veterans home is a HHSC facility but is managed by Avalon Health Care Group.

Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Talmadge Magno also confirmed the positive cases today.

“That’s one of our worst fears — that it gets into a long-term facility,” he said.
