Raymond Kama Bumatay, 80, of Hilo died July 31 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa and raised in Kalapana, he was a retired public school teacher for at-risk students, a Waikiki beach boy, founder and coach of Paddlers of Laka, former canoe paddling coach at Kamehameha High School and kahuna kalai wa‘a. Private services with a celebration of life at a later date. Survived by wife, Janice Bumatay of Hilo; sons, Douglas (Aldina) Bumatay and Alexander “Alika” (Alice Ching) Bumatay of Hilo; daughter, Lorelei “Pua” (Shane) Kalaniopio of Hilo; brothers, William Hopeau of Hilo, Wayne Awai of Waikoloa, Charleston Awai and Collins Awai of Portland, Ore.; sister, Jennie Silva of Hilo; four grandsons and a granddaughter; nieces and nephews and cousins. Rosabella “Rose” Agustin Sacayanan, 71, of Papaaloa died July 24 at home. Born in Paoay, Philippines, she was a retired vegetable nursery worker for Mauna Kea Packing and member of St. Anthony Catholic Churchin Papaaloa. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Face masks and social distancing required. Burial at the church cemetery. Survived by daughters, Lina (Giovanni) Sacayanan and Raquel (Donald) Sacayanan of Papaaloa; sons, Ben (Loida) Sacayanan of Honokaa and Rodel (Mary) Sacayanan of Waialua, Oahu; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Manuel “Manny” Leialoha Kiaha, 74, of Kealakekua died Aug. 6 at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Honolulu, he was a real estate agent, auditor at the former Kona Lagoon Hotel and the former Hyatt Regency at Hualalai, former Konawaena High School head basketball coach, founder of Kona Kats girls basketball club, member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Puukapu Baseball club, Mauka Rotary Club and U.S. Army veteran. Graveside services at a later date at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Survived by wife, Mary Kiaha of Kealakekua; daughters, Desiree Dochin of Kealakekua, Tenille (Logan) Kiaha-Maumau of Herriman, Utah, Lezlie Ann Kiaha and Mandy Kiaha of Honolulu; brother, Rupert Dane (Alma) Kiaha of Keauhou; sister, Janie Wong of Hawi; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary Mitsue Nakagawa, 72, of Holualoa died July 28 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, she graduated from The Queen’s Hospital School of Nursing, worked for State Farm, Walmart and Hualalai Garage and was a member of Kona Hongwanji Mission, Daifukuji Fujinkai Women’s Association and Kaumalumalu Kumiai. Private services. Survived by husband, Jimmy Nakagawa of Holualoa; sons, Wade Thomas Nakagawa of Honolulu, Robert-Alan Nakagawa and Guy-Michael “Miki” Nakagawa of Holualoa; brother, Lory Segawa of Las Vegas; sisters, Lynn (Elton) Kamiya and Dale Stricker of Honolulu; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Kiyoko Sako, 91, of Pahoa died Aug. 7 at home. Born in Olaa, she was a retired owner of the former Sako Store and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association and Kurtistown Jodo Mission and Fujinkai. Survived by son, Kevin (Chris) Sako of Pahoa; brother, Eddie (Eileen) Suzuki of California; sisters, Yooko Suzuki of Keaau, Mieko Hashimoto of Honolulu and Sumi (Hiroshi) Nishikawa of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
