Gov. David Ige has ordered the U.S. and Hawaii state flags to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday in honor of the late state Sen. Breene Harimoto.
On Monday, the state flag will be flown at the Capitol in honor of Harimoto, as a gift to his family.
“Breene was a true dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly and selflessly for the community he loved, even while fighting his illness,” said Gov. Ige.
The 66-year-old Harimoto, who represented District 16, which includes Pearl City and Aiea, died June 18 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He also served on the Honolulu City Council for four years and the state Board of Education for eight years, two terms as the board’s chairman.
Harimoto is survived by his wife Cheryl, three children, three grandchildren, his parents and three siblings.
