Wing-Daniels named to spring dean’s list

Elizabeth Wing-Daniels of Kealakekua was one of more than 1,300 students named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. Wing-Daniels is pursuing a degree in biology.

Dean’s list honors are awarded to students who attained a grade-point average of at least 3.50 for the semester and completed at least four courses of three credits or equivalent.

Rude named to dean’s list at Georgia State

Alexander Rude of Kailua-Kona was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken during the fall or spring term and a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all classes.

Shishido earns degree

Sheldon Shishido of Hilo was among the undergraduate, adult degree and graduate-level students who received diplomas from George Fox University in Newberg, Ore., this spring. Shishido earned a doctor of physical therapy degree.

Mcdonald earns faculty honors at Georgia Tech

Kiyono Mcdonald of Kailua-Kona earned the distinction of faculty honors for spring 2020 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who earned a 4.0 academic average for the semester.

Gleason named to SAU president’s list

Gabrielle Gleason of Hilo earned a 4.0 GPA in the spring 2020 semester, securing a prestigious position on the president’s list at Southern Arkansas Univesity in Magnolia, Ark. Gleason is a senior elementary education K-6 STEM major.

Hilo students graduate from Colorado College

The Colorado College class of 2020 was celebrated online May 31, with the college in Colorado Springs, Colo., awarding 524 bachelor of arts and 15 master of arts in teaching degrees. Among those graduating were Ian Sanborn, who graduated with a degree in computer science, and Kekailani Wong Yuen, who received a degree in English. Both are from Hilo.

Hilo student among Culver-Stockton grads

The board of trustees at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., voted May 16 to confer the degrees for 215 graduates in the class of 2020.

Among the conferees was Jordan Caoagdan of Hilo, who earned a bachelor of arts degree with a major in history.

Nixon named to dean’s list

Audrey Nixon of Waimea was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Nixon’s major is listed as film and media arts. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 graded credit hours during any one term.

Kealakekua resident named to dean’s list

Brianna Halliwell of Kealakekua was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Berea College in Berea, Ky. A student is named to the dean’s list for achieving a GPA of 3.4 or higher while passing at least four total credits, a course load equivalent to 16 semester hours.

Big Isle students named to Graceland dean’s list

Isaiah Nakoa-Oness of Hilo and Kaelan Padilla of Keaau were named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Students with a GPA between 3.25 and 3.64 are named to the dean’s list.

Kaelan Padilla of Keaau recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in business administration from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.

Pike wins award

Sabrina Pike of Kailua-Kona was named the recipient of The Harold C. Bohn Prize in Anthropology during the annual Class & Charter Day at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. The virtual ceremony was conducted May 11. Established in 1950, the event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of college’s charter on May 26, 1812. The Harold C. Bohn Prize is awarded to a student who has excelled in the study of anthropology. Pike, a senior majoring in archaeology and creative writing, is a graduate of Kealakehe High School.
