Diane Makiko Akine, 81, of Hilo died May 1 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired Waiakea Elementary School teacher and recreational golfer. Survived by son, Clint Akine of Hilo; daughter, Terri Lynn Akine of Hilo; brothers, Wallace (Carol) Ishii and Roy Ishii of Honolulu; sister, Katherine Ishihara of Honolulu; nieces, nephews and cousins. Ricarte Calabucal, 85, of Kurtistown died April 15. He was born in the Philippines. Private services held. Julia Kawaianuenue Rose, aka Julie K. Rose, 87, of Keaau died May 1 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was an early childhood educator for Imua Puna/Hilo, member of Paradise Chapel in Maili, Oahu, and Living Waters in Hilo Assembly of God churches and past-president of both churches’ women’s ministries.
